@01:09You seem to have some problems with the chalkboard moving; but I love the effect of the drawing and writing, especially the close up where you wipe away the first notes and then write in more. Very cool.

@00:57I like this bit:
"we can Avoid the sun"

You really have the character's personality coming through here.

This is my first peice of stop animation - best peice of animation I have ever done and is based on the title "Freedom" so I looked at the story of Icarus and Dadelus from greek myth - and tried to real tell certian aspects through this chalkboard effect.

I based the work off artist Tacita Dean I saw in Tate Modern which was 7 chalkboards representing plans and events of boat journeys, and I wanted to recreate that effect with Icarus's fly to freedom.

Enjoy.

I think I might make a new version of Icarus's Plans and enter it in a film festival once I've left Uni.

Animation ^^ I'm studying it at Bristol Univeristy, we're just next to the Aardman Animation Studios and it lets me use all the different facilities and styles of animation they have to offer.

But they drive us like slave horses ^^ Atleast in two years time I can do my own animation =D

we have 3 years too. The first year is like a trial and error foundation year, trying all types of animation - but mostly hand drawn. Then second year everyone splits into their prefered groups and makes a film together. Third years you make your own film...so yeah. I guess our course is a bit more about individuality and creativity more than inbetweening and such, but we learn enough this year if we want to further our knowledge I guess!

@02:14It's brilliant. I love the bittersweet "we can avoid the sun!" The morphing at the end was also lovely.

I'm going to see the Dean work this week-ish, would you recommend it then?

@02:14What I saw at the Tate was lovely, I don't like the Modern too much, I personally thing it's too abstract for my taste, but I loved her chalkboard work.

And thank you =) Icarus to me seemed just so naive and optimistic, and I wanted to put that across!

@02:15Hi there, i'd like to see you having a few more attempts at this, it would be interesting to see how you progress.

It's not perfect, as i'm sure you know, but i do like the idea.
I really like the part at the end where Icarus runs, transforms into a bird, and takes flight.

If you do create a "version 2" in future, i have a suggestion, have the wings slowly growing out of him, rather than an outline of the wings being filled in with feathers.

@02:15I might do - but not for a while. This was for an exam peice which I know I could of improved, but I have a load more animations and films to do for my portfolio for university. I might find a way to do that then.

Thank you for the comment! That Idea is fantastic, I'll note it down for next time.
